I was digging around looking for some Billy Bragg stuff for personal consumption :). Always loved Billy Bragg's lyrics and basically anyone who he would team up with would draw me in. Enter Kate Nash, never heard of her a month ago, but now am listening to her album religiously. and it all started with this video from yout tube recorded at the NME 2008 awards.
This week's Darkerlight Radio show is in celebration of New Model Army coming to Toronto, which I will be attending April 14, 2008. We showcase a great range of the best artists and have steered clear of the electronic stuff. Some of the artists featured this week; New Model Army, Radiohead, Drop Kick Murphys, The Smiths, Pixies, Dead Kennedys, The Clash, Siouxie and The Banshees, Pulp, and Joy Division.
I am an huge fan of dark drum and bass, the more electronic and less vocal the better. I am not even sure if Dark Drum and Bass is a genre, so let me explain. According to wikipedia Drum and Bass is defined as: "The genre is characterised by fast tempo broken beat drums (generally between 160–180 beats per minute) with heavy, often intricate basslines." I'll add to that it is predominately electronic, or acoustic with massive post-production. In researching, before writing this article, I discovered that what I call Dark Drum and Bass, is often called Darkcore, with subgenre's like Doomcore and Spookycore. Doomcore is songs have a very apocalyptic feel to them and Spooky core is usually, well spooky, and littered with horror movie samples.

New Model Army
Sometimes good bands never die. I had not listened to New Model Army in a while, not that I don't love them, I do. When a band has not made new material in a while I tend to move on to other things. Then it happened, while listening to my digital library on shuffle and a NMA track came up. It got my curiosity flowing so I went to the NMA Site. Lo and Behold NMA has a new Album called High. Here is a track...Read More...
