David Duchovny in DragWhat other show boasts an all star cast living in the world created by the mind of David Lynch? What other shows has such metaphorical power and a very dark side to it? None other ever to be on TV screens. I watch very little TV as a general habit, but one show will always and forever suck me in, and keep me looking for meaning. I speak of none other than Twin Peaks .

From David Duchovny in drag to the dark underbelly of a small town to the down right evil of the woods surrounding it. I challenge anyone to give me a show this enjoyable.

Welcome to the Darkerlight Twin Peaks page, this is a collection of links, notes, video and more to help you explore the world of Twin Peaks if your new or old to the series.

The first thing to establish is what you will get out of watching these: I promise you that it will be an amazing ride that will not let up, done in a thoroughly dark style. I am surprised more goth and industrial sites don't acknowledge the profound impact this has had on dark culture. Listen to God Module, a favourite band of mine, samples galore. In addition it was one of the first TV series to be filmed in movie quality, watching the DVD's now you definitely can not see it's age and it always feels current.

The second thing to establish especially to new comers to Twin Peaks is the order in which you need to watch the episodes:

  1. The Pilot (first episode of the series)
  2. Season One (episodes 1-7)
  3. Season Two (episodes 8-29)
  4. Twin Peaks Movie: Fire Walk with Me
Twin Peaks Leaves

The third thing to establish is the many options you have to obtain this series and movie. Most hardcore fans have been piecing together collections over the years, relying on secondhand stores and ebay foreign imports to get what the complete collection. Now-a-days you can grab the entire series and movie from bit torrent sites (if copyright law allows it in your country). However I don't advise it, this is worth buying. I pieced my collection with a box set of VHS (remember those?), an second hand DVD of the movie Fire Walk with Me and a pilot I obtained from ebay that had to be shipped from Hong Kong. Why was it so hard back then? A whole slew of rights complications that basically had different parts of the epic in the hands of different companies. In fact it took more than 10 years before the first season was available on DVD!!! Now I am glad to say, as of October, 2007 you can buy the Twin Peaks Definitive Gold Box Edition which includes the pilot and all 29 episodes, remastered. At around 80 bucks its a steal. Then all you'll need to do is pick up a copy of Fire Walk with Me, the Twin Peaks Movie and you'll have a complete set. The quality of the set will kick the ass of anything that can be downloaded, plus there are 'extras' so I recommend buying it.

The cast of Twin Peaks can be looked at in retrospect as a great gathering of talent. It included a lot of people we now recognize as stars, it also has these stars in dark roles we have not seen before. Here is the cast listing from IMBD:

The next step in your conversion to a Twin Peaks fanatic is the good old web! Obviously there is this site, but many more detailed sites around the net. I will update this page as I stumble across theme, but here are ther biggies in my opinion:

Twin Peaks Online - This site is very out of date but contains the TP FAQ which is essential reading AFTER you watch the shows.

The (un)official Twin Peaks Site - it says its the official site, but I don't think it is. Great content but hard to find... I guess that is true twin peaks fashion.

David Lynch - Twin Peaks Site - This is probably the more official site, great resource for everything TP, also a ton of links not here.

Twin Peaks Gazette - Still alive and strong. They have a festival every year that tours all the various locations in Seattle that comprised the fictional town of Twin Peaks
